They are swooned over during winter walks. They are painstakingly painted – even Van Gogh was obsessed with them. They are cited as a symbol of the transient nature of life. And there is a contagious countdown excitement among the locals waiting for this special moment in winter.

Welcome to Ibiza’s almond blossom. It’s impossible to think of winter in Ibiza without an iconic image of its countryside covered with perfect white bloom coming to mind. This natural wonder usually takes place between the end of January and middle of February.

When the trees are in full bloom, it is time to indulge in one of the island’s all-time favourite activity, enjoy a peaceful stroll around the valley of Santa Agnes and appreciate the beauty of the rolling hills tinted by the colour of white and soft pink petals.

This is the perfect opportunity to discover the rural side of the island, with its calm lifestyle and rich countryside. We’re talking about herds of goats and sheep grazing on green hills, of tranquillity and an almost total absence of noise.

If you visit the area don’t hesitate to indulge yourself in one of the local restaurants. Right next to Santa Agnes church you’ll find the legendary Can Cosmi bar, whose tortillas are among the best known on the island.

If you are up for a walk, we suggest you this nice route: once in Santa Agnes, turn left when you are in front of Can Cosmi bar and take that road until the end of the valley (15/20 minutes). You will reach a wooded area where sits a restaurant called ‘Las Puertas Del Cielo’ (Heaven’s Doors), the name gives you a little clue of the beauty of this place.

If you are planning a trip by car then from Santa Agnes head towards the near village of San Mateo, where you will find the traditional restaurant Can Cires, owned by a charming French man. This restaurant offers great Spanish countryside cuisine.

But the valley of Santa Agnes isn’t the only valley where you can find the almond trees. You can actually find them all over the island. So we encourage you not to miss this opportunity and take a trip around the island to discover Ibiza’s spectacular beauty.
