As you swim lazily along in the 25m infinity pool, surrounded by beautiful countryside terraces and staring into the turquoise waters of the west coast below you, it is hard not to be seriously impressed with this lovely property. Sa Torre is a wonderfully large seven bedroom villa set on a 35,000m² hillside plot. This is an excellent property for a large group of family or friends, offering spacious shaded terraces, a brand new open-air paddle court, and a fully equipped indoor gym, alongside various places to relax and take in the stunning sea views and campo surrounds. The lovely calas and playas of the island’s striking west coast are all close by and can be explored within just a few minutes by car. And then there is the amazing sunset. Words cannot describe it.
The accommodation is spread over two main floors as well as having a tower (thus the name Sa Torre). On the main living floor there is a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area. From here you can walk in one direction to the outside dining and kitchen terrace, in another direction to the large sofa terrace and pool terrace, and in another to a beautiful open patio surrounded by a covered walkway from where you access four of the bedrooms. There is another bedroom on an upper floor in the tower and on the lower floor there are 2 further large bedrooms and a cinema/games room. The living area, two of the bedrooms on the main floor and the lower floor rooms benefit from the stunning sea views. The pool is heated in Spring and Autumn to make your stay even more enjoyable.
*If the median ambient air temperature is below the seasonal norms the pool temperature can’t be guaranteed.
Cala Gracioneta. The only restaurant in this pretty little sandy bay. It’s a wonderful spot for a high quality long lunch or an early dinner. The food is great, the location amazing and there is an intimate fun atmosphere. We thoroughly recommend the overall experience. Take note though; this tiny beach has a tiny parking area which fills up fast and can be hard to get in and out of. In peak season go very early or park further away and walk.
Cala d’Hort. In terms of quality of the arroces y paellas this is perhaps the best of the three Cala d’Hort restaurants. It also has stunning views over the sea to Es Vedra, but it doesn’t have easy access to the beach and is in fact a 5 to 10 minute drive inland to link with the main beach. It’s a lovely spot but if a beach restaurant is what you are after then this is not for you. Fantastic for an early dinner.
A beach for all, this busy beach brags some of the cleanest and clearest swimming water on the island and is a perfect place to enjoy a long beach day. Surrounded by Ibiza’s native Sabina trees and sporting two large rock formations on either end of the beach this golden stretch of sand is extremely popular with families and locals alike. Cala Bassa has good shade and facilities galore making it an ideal family experience.
If you are in a more energetic mood try your legs at jet skiing or jumping off the rocks on either ends of the beach. Feeling slower, go to the right and sit on the rocks with the locals fishing.
Tip: Eat or drink at the stylish Cala Bassa Beach Club (+34 971 34 26 61, www.cbbcgroup.com) which has 3 different restaurants to choose from which are each targeting slightly different pockets.
The best sunset beach on the island. Watching the sun melt into the sea here is guaranteed to deliver a truly melancholic moment. As you pull into your most photographically perfect parking spot, you know that you have arrived in paradise. Your first glimpse from the large cliff side parking area will be of the large beached-whale-like and uninhabited island of Sa Conillera. The water in Cala Conta is Formentera-esque as the abundant sand creates an aquamarine bliss.
The beach is divided into three differing sections, two are supported by more rocky background and the last has pristinely white sand dunes. Take your pick whether you veer right or left. To the West you will find families enjoying the ideally shallow, pool-like cove safe for younger kids. To the East, known as Cala Escondita, you are more likely to spend time with the nudists (who have informally claimed this section as their own).
You will find small coves of varying depths creating for an ideal snorkelling environment. It’s a stunning spot but if you swim out far into the open sea, bear in mind that the currents can pick up a bit especially towards the late afternoon and this can be deceptively dangerous.
A smaller and more secluded version of its neighbour Cala Gracio, this sandy bay is a tiny slice of heaven. It’s a picturesque little cove, with pine trees providing shade, a clear pool like water. Great for swimming and snorkelling.
Very popular with families who take advantage of the shallow waters as well as with a younger crowd who like to soak up the idyllic atmosphere from the vibrant beach restaurant at the top end of the beach. The food is solidly good, the location amazing and there is a fun atmosphere. El Chiringuito Cala Gracioneta (+34 971 348 338, www.calagracioneta.com).
Earlier arrival is also recommended at Cala Gracioneta as it does fill up, especially in the afternoons as sunset time approaches and people start to fill the chiringuito.
