Ibiza boasts more than 20 diving sites but let us introduce you to our three favourite spots.
THE DON PEDRO
The name Don Pedro looks like coming from a gangster movie but it’s actually the name of the biggest shipwreck in Europe. 142 meters long and 20 meters wide, this wreck lies on a sandy bottom near Ibiza’s port. Don Pedro is a must for all divers with Advanced Open Water or higher. With a depth ranging from 25 metres until 45 metres this “Monster of the Med” is full of life and with crystal clear water and no surprise that Don Pedro has been named as one of the top 100 dives in the world and one of the top 10 wreck dives in the world.
EL DADO PEQUEÑO
Dado Pequeño is a dive that worths the trip! At first glance, the small rock that emerges on the surface does not look like much, but once underwater, this site has a lot to offer: depth, shallow waters, fascinating topography and abundant marine life. Its “structure” of walls and rocks, its labyrinth with fantastic light shows, is the refuge of thousands of fishes such as barracudas, octopuses, moray eels, congers, groupers and many multicoloured nudibranchs.
FISH FACTORY
Located on the way to Formentera you will find La Platforma, a fish factory that collapsed in a storm in 1997. Underwater, one easily understands what attracts underwater photographers and wreck lovers. This structure, worthy of a sci-fi movie, serves as a refuge for a wide variety of fish species. Hexagonal, giant, reinforced concrete, it begins at 11 meters deep to finish 33 meters deep. The platform serves as an artificial reef for many marine species. The most represented is, without a doubt, the barracudas – hundreds of barracudas swim around the structure and are hardly intimidated by divers!
