Ibiza loves a party, and none are bigger, better or more fun than Carnival. Here on the island Carnival is not so much about glittering costumes as in Canary Islands or elaborate floats as in Cádiz, but we do celebrate in our own way. In fact, Carnival is one of the most vibrant and lively events on the calendar of every island resident.

Keep in mind that there is not one main procession, that is because each district celebrates with its own. Every year each town has a slightly different take on the celebration, however you can be sure to always find buzzing parades, fantastic costumes and plenty of food involved!

This year the Carnival celebrations will last between the 20th and 25th of February. During these days the streets of the towns are taking over by colourful parades, called “Rúas de Carnaval” where adults and children groups dance to the sounds of live music while dressing up in fancy dresses. We can always spotted some costumes that are more traditional while others are more modern, in the last couple of years we have seen themes inspired by movies like Transformers, Star Wars or the Lion King.

Highlights of the celebrations include the parade in Ibiza Town, usually starting next to the port and ending up in the main square of Vara del Rey. If you are feeling hungry later, you can go and get some of the super sized paella for only 2euro!

If you are up for some traditional product tasting then you will not be disappointed. During this time of the year you can try some delicious authentic sweet treats that are only available at this time of the year like the “ensaimada de carnival” or the yummy “coca dulce”. Its the perfect time to visit Ibiza for many reasons.
